Singing Voice Therapy
Reclaim and restore your singing voice.
Singing Voice Therapy is different from singing lessons. It is focused on rehabilitation, optimizing vocal health, and addressing specific concerns. It can supplement ongoing singing lessons or serve as a standalone program for recovery, prevention, and performance support.

Even subtle changes in vocal function can affect performance, stamina, and expressiveness. Singing voice therapy addresses vocal injuries, tension, fatigue, or inconsistencies so you can sing safely, confidently, and sustainably.

Singing demands precision, endurance, coordination, and control across a wide range of pitches, dynamics, and sometimes styles or genres. Even minor issues such as strain, reduced range, or register inconsistencies can impact performance and enjoyment. Singing voice therapy is a platform for combining clinical voice therapy with singing pedagogy to support recovery, prevention, and optimization of your unique instrument.

Singing Voice Therapy sessions are online with Alyssa (she/her), a registered Speech-Language Pathologist/Voice Therapist. She is a clinically-trained Singing Voice Specialist and a Gender Affirming Voice Coach. Prior to becoming a Voice Therapist, Alyssa completed her undergraduate degree in classical voice performance and pedagogy at Dalhousie University as a soprano, taught singing lessons for several years, and performed occasionally. When an autoimmune-related injury changed her voice, she sought to improve it, which began her journey to the clinical side of voice. Alyssa became a clinically-trained Singing Voice Specialist and, as a Voice Therapist, has worked alongside laryngologists to assess and treat professional singing voices. She continues to work with singers across many styles and enjoys being a collaborative support on the singer’s team.
Frequently Asked Questions
Who is eligible? Folks seeking singing voice rehabilitation (not singing lessons) may be eligible. Ontario residents aged 18+ are eligible to proceed. We make exceptions from time-to-time for teens aged 15+, please email admin@speechappealclinic.com to inquire.  Do I need a referral? No referral is needed. You can book directly, starting with a free meet-and-greet or an intake session to discuss your goals. Is Voice Therapy and Training covered by insurance? As all of our clinicians at SpeechAppeal are registered Speech-Language Pathologists, services you receive are eligible for third-party or private insurance coverage. Additionally, many union-organized insurance packages such as those through ACTRA may offer support. Please check with your provider on budgets and requirements as this information is not available to us.  How long will it take? Program duration varies depending on your goals, voice condition, and consistency of practice. Many clients begin with an initial foundation trial of 4 weekly or bi-weekly sessions. Will I be assigned exercises? Yes! Exercises to maximize vocal healing, coordinate voice-breath, increase the ease and stamina of using your voice, and prevent further vocal injury will be assigned to you in sessions.  Do all Speech-Language Pathologists Treat Voice? No. Speech-Language Pathologists who specialize in Voice have received extensive clinical training in this area. Not all SLPs offer voice therapy. Are sessions online or in-person? All sessions are online. What makes SpeechAppeal unique? Our clinicians are clinically trained SLPs who are voice therapists. One is an SVI-trained vocologist, and another is a clinically-trained Singing Voice Specialist and classically-trained singer. We combine evidence-based voice therapy techniques with a holistic, client-centred approach to ensure long-term vocal health and performance. Is it possible to work on singing voice through a gender-affirming lens? Yes. Please select gender-affirming voice meet-and-greet or intake session and let your clinician know you're interested in incorporating singing voice.
